Frequently Asked Questions

Whilst originally established in 1952 to support people during convalescence, LCS has evolved to support the broader health and wellbeing of local residents.

Individuals and organisations can apply, providing they are within the City of Leeds Metropolitan District and comply with the grant conditions.  LCS is particularly keen to fund small charities, voluntary organisations, and community groups.

Whilst LCS does not provide a definitive list of items, they should fall under the broad category of 'health and wellbeing'.

Some examples of approved applications are;

  • Equipment - Nebuliser Machines, Wheelchairs.
  • Support Groups - Mental health, terminal illness.
  • Community Outreach - Clothing, transport, furniture.
  • Wellbeing - day trips, theatre visits.

As this is a closed fund, with limited resources, grants are usually between £200 to £600.  However, this is not a cap, as each case is considered on its own merit.

LCS is a closed fund, that oversees a portfolio of investments and endowments.  The income generated by these is used to fund grant allocations.  As a result, we do not accept donations at this time.
